“Utopia and Apocalypse in Pop Music” is a study of hardcore techno in Berlin in the 2010s, but also a study of the sonic characteristics of these styles. Using tracks and videos, the emergence of these styles will be sketched and their references to the sound system culture or gender aspects highlighted.
I will present mainly take-outs of the last lectures what didn’t happen due to lack of time. And just on request, the topics mentioned above, if there is still time ;-) It overlaps anyway. I would like to do without long introductions, what hardcore techno is. I’d rather talk about the art projects relating to hardcore e.g. of Henrike Naumann or Merle Vorwald, or about hardcore in Vienna. I will present photos, videos and tracks for collective listening. Those present are encouraged to talk about their perspective or their experiences. Questions, additions, anecdotes are welcome! Because research rarely comes to an end, but opens up further gaps and questions.

Review (German & English) of the book by Shituationist Institute: https://si-blog.net/
After an appropriate music break, in which Tobias (Paradiso) will play his 7″ singles – Jukebox Utopia will follow after with spontaneous DJing of 7″ singles. No hardcore (due to neighbours) but pop, disco and experimental 45s.
As always, the best food is available on a donation basis! Kitchen – 1050 Vienna, Schwarzhorngasse 1 / Bacherplatz.
On the same evening is also the closing party of the great Kaleidoscope open-air cinema at Karlsplatz, which enriched my summer. Party is at Roxy from 23.30pm with Sounds of Blackness and others.
