From April 2–11 2025 “ultrablack non-ference of mille plateaux II” proliferates and branches out from Forum Stadtpark (and other places) into the city of Graz. Again it launches its dark, unpredictable, and concatenating deprogramming program, with several days of concerts, lectures, video/film screenings, performances, exhibitions, installations, workshops, discussions, DJ sets, and unpredictable fallouts implying ad hoc improvisations and fast acting.
In this ambitous program of the mille plateaux residency at Forum Stadtpark I play at the Gabber Wednesday at Forum alongside Katana and mille plateaux artist Ibrahim Alfa Jr. I will also show photos, flyers and video footage from my Gabber + Breakcore research, published as “Utopie und Apokalypse in der Popmusik”, talk about motivations and conclusions. Bianca Ludewig: “Utopia and Apocalypse in Pop Music” (lecture)
The study provides a vivid picture of the gabber and breakcore scenes in Berlin in the 2010s and attempts to place their sound and sonic qualities at the center of a cultural studies investigation. The music is analyzed as a sonic event and in its social context. From this sonic level, further fields of negotiation around the city and space are explored.
